The Madness of George III

Alan Bennett’s award-winning play, known to many as the 1994 film starring Nigel Hawthorne.

It’s 1786 and King George III is the most powerful man in the world. But his behaviour is becoming increasingly erratic as he succumbs to fits of lunacy. With the King’s mind unravelling at a dramatic pace, the loving, loyal Queen Charlotte is denied access to her husband by the scheming Prince of Wales and ambitious politicians. The King’s only hope is the materialisation of a man named Willis, a doctor with revolutionary ideas about mental health.
